Ali Shakir, M.D.
Dr. Shakir grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he majored in Biological Sciences with a minor in English. He attended medical school at New York Medical College and completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Washington, where he served as chief resident. After his residency, he completed a fellowship in Spine and Sports Medicine at the Buffalo Spine and Sports Institute.
Dr. Shakir is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certifications in Sports Medicine and Pain Medicine. He is also certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine in the performance of nerve conduction studies and electromyography. He has taken part in multiple scientific presentations at national medical meetings and his research has been published in medical journals.
Dr. Shakir has extensive experience in providing comprehensive non-surgical sports medicine and spine care. This includes the diagnosis and management of patients with spine, sports and occupational injuries for patients from early adolescence through adulthood. Dr. Shakir is experienced in the design and application of therapeutic exercises, as well as a wide range of spine pain procedures under fluoroscopic guidance and under ultrasound guidance. He also performs regenerative injection therapies, consisting of prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections. In addition, he utilizes musculoskeletal ultrasound for the evaluation of disorders of muscles, joints and nerves.
